Best iPhone apps

myPhoneDesktop

If you’ve ever been reading a webpage on your computer but needed to run out the door, you’ve probably wished there was an easy way to send the URL to your iPad, Phone or iPod touch so you can read it on the go. There is. It’s called Read it Later.

But what if you wanted to do more than just send a link .. what if you wanted to send a picture, or someone’s phone number, or a huge slab of text .. or even get your iPhone to make a phone call or send an SMS? Then you need myPhoneDesktop.

This is an awesome app that lets you do all sorts of things and get stacks of different kinds of info onto any of your iDevices .. in a flash.

Lets say you’ve got an iPhone. If you’re like me and you’ve got really big hands, it’s not a whole lot of fun typing long SMS messages on that tiny (but beautiful) 3.5 inch screen. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could type them on your computer but send them from your phone? Well now you can! MyPhoneDesktop lets you whack in a phone number, type your message .. and then export it straight to your iPhone’s Messages app. All you have to do is hit paste and you’re ready to go. It’s even easier for phone calls. If you need to call a friend and you’ve got their details saved on your computer or on the web, just copy and paste into the app and hit ‘call’. You’re iPhone will do the rest!

Making it one step better, it even works when the app’s not open.

Available in the App Store. Similar functionality to chrometophone for Android phones running Froyo. Requires web client or desktop application (Mac, Windows, Linux).

Amsterdam

How to get back at your overpriced hotel in Amsterdam for charging a fortune for EVERYTHING

Step 1. Find local McDonalds (500m walk)
2. Buy cheaper food at local McDonalds (price: 1 euro per hamburger vs 8 euro at overpriced hotel. I bought 4.)
3. Use free wifi at local McDonalds for 3 hours (price: zero euro vs 14 euro at overpriced hotel)
4. Watch free movies at local McDonalds (price: zero euro vs 10 euro at overpriced hotel .. ok ok so the movie’s on in the children’s play area, AND it’s only Monsters Inc. AND it’s in Dutch .. but it’s FREE)
5. Tell all of Facebook and every hotel booking forum on the Internet to go to the hotel NEXT DOOR because it’s a whopping 25 euro cheaper per night.

In conclusion: if you’re ever traveling through Amsterdam and looking for a cheap place to stay near the airport .. DONT STAY AT THE IBIS .. stay at Etap Hotel next door!
